Making the A-list: wedding guest edition.

Sorry ladies—he’s off the market! This past weekend one of the world’s most eligible (and stylish!) bachelors whisked his graceful fiancée away to the romantic city of Venice. There the duo pledged to love, hold—and keep things stylish—until death do them part, in front of hosts of exquisitely dressed guests including Anna Wintour, Cindy Crawford and Emily Blunt.

Ok, so let’s face it, while most of us will have a modest chance to make the guest list of a Clooney-type affair, there’s nothing stopping us from infusing a little Clooney/Amal—pizzazz into any wedding we attend!

Here are my top 3 tips for Cloonying things up a notch at your next wedding:

Select the right fabric. Weddings offer the perfect excuse to leave the knit jersey (exception: silk jersey) and stretch poly at home, and glam things up with lace, rich embroidery or varieties of silk—from chiffon to taffeta. So go ahead and sparkle—just not brighter than the bride!

Accessorize. Even the simplest frock can be transformed into a red-carpet stunner with the right finishing touches. If your dress is simple—free of embellishments or elaborate design elements—it creates the perfect canvas for showcasing your unique style using the right mix of accessories (elegant clutches, earrings, necklaces, shawls, etc). Beware of a fine line—these complimentary pieces are meant to accentuate, and not take away from the overall look.

Keep it classic. No need to have a PHD in fashion to concoct an A-list creation—stick to classic silhouettes, and dress styles that complement your body type, and have worked for you in the past. When in doubt, ask for a second opinion, and seek inspiration from past and present fashion muses. My personal favourites? Jackie O. and Kate Middleton.

Last but not least, in the words of Edith Head: A dress should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to prove you’re a lady. Well said Ms. Head!

So ladies, don’t waste any more weddings not looking your A-best—I challenge you to raise the bar, and do your part in transforming your next wedding into an A-list affair!
